If it is any comfort, we are all facing many of the plights you so openly speak about. Here is Hawai'i ICE has arrested our Mexican workforce who willingly comes here every year to pick the coffee harvest and has for decades, bringing their families putting their children in school, and now the 800+ small family farms are without pickers at the height of the season and will most likely all lose their income. Tourism being our main driver, is set up mainly for the wealthy, while our children cannot afford to buy any home, and must stay with their families, or pay enormous rents for homes that are Airbnb, the price of the organic bread I buy rose to $12.50 last week, with organic milk at $22.00 a gallon, etc. I think the latest report is 45% of all families are living pay check to paycheck, using SNAP to supplement their food needs which willl be leaving at some point.
And yes there are many opportunities daily to become for self-sufficient, when 95+% of our food and daily supplies come by boat from a port 2300 miles away. This scenario is quite Unsustainable and we have known this for a long long time, but when the State Legislature turns their eyes toward only the military and tourism as our sources of income, poverty ensues for the people, especially for the Hawaiian people.
Most likely everyone reading this would have a story of their locality and what is happening there that is unjust, unfair, and cruel.

I am also facing great uncertainty at the age of 72, seeing the world I so love locked in a death grip with selfishness and ignorance/denial. Yet I still feel strongly that so many of us are here to transform the world, and are gifted with the capacity to both recognize what is wrong and to carry forth the vision of what is possible and what is next.

Sending you much love and healing energy. You speak truth, the one thing that will save us if it's still possible...is to connect local community with local small farmers. Maine has the potential to fast track this and build infrastructure resiliency. More than living solo off grid....building community to farms is vital. The communities must support local farms. In my opinion Maine has rich soil and produces some of the best tasting nutrient dense food this country has to offer. Food is Medicine can truly work. ❤️
